True story; I found this cup at a friend's garage sale, decided the print on it looked like an evil eye, and undertook a search to find just the right eyes, which I then ordered in bulk, so you'll be seeing a lot of these in my work for a bit. We can discuss the ethics of ordering evil eyes in bulk, but I feel better about that than I do about disassembling actual objects of reverence/superstition to harvest their eyes, so this is gonna have to do. This eye is cast resin. I've handdrawn and handcut the spider to hold that eye out of a bright brass to match the edging on the cup. I am very please with this piece, as a whole.
This is an art object; the teacup and spider are permanently bonded. While I fully support displaying this piece inside your cabinet with the rest of your teacups, you cannot drink from it. It is not a toy. It is, unlike some of my other sculpture work, easy to dust and not subject to moths, so can be put out on a shelf or wherever you want it, and does not require a glass case.
